Chamizal National Memorial | Tapestry (1974)

On August 29, 1963, the governments of the United States and Mexico settled a decades-long border dispute over El Chamizal, a 600-acre tract of land along the Rio Grande. The two nations agreed to split the disputed territory, compensate displaced residents, and build a concrete channel that would prevent the river's course from bringing the international boundary into question again. The Chamizal National Memorial not only commemorates this diplomatic achievement but also provides a space to celebrate cultural exchange and border heritage. In this 1974 documentary segment, El Paso dance icon Rosa Guerrero tours the memorial's 500-seat indoor theater ahead of a performance.
