Guadalupe Mountains National Park | Texas: Land of Contrast (1966)

People have inhabited the Guadalupe Mountains for at least 10,000 years. The Mescalero Apache freely roamed the area until the mid-nineteenth century, when Anglo American settlers and cavalry regiments of Buffalo Soldiers drove them out. But the history of Guadalupe Mountains National Park extends far beyond human civilization—the park also preserves a 265-million-year-old marine fossil reef. Produced by the Texas Highway Department's Travel and Information Division, this 1966 promotional film segment showcases another impressive natural feature: El Capitan.
