Lost Maples State Natural Area | Made in Texas (1985)

This segment from a 1990 episode of Made in Texas, a PBS television program promoting the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, highlights the most popular attraction found at Lost Maples State Natural Area: its fall foliage. While fall colors are typically hard to come by elsewhere in the state, a sheltered stand of bigtooth maple trees turns this state park various shades of orange and red from mid-October to mid-November every year. Lost Maples is also home to several rare species of bird, such as the green kingfisher and zone-tailed hawk.
