Tyler State Park | Tyler, Texas: Where Life Is Enjoyable (1955)

Before white settlers drove remaining tribes from the area in the 1840s, the Caddo people occupied the land that now includes Tyler State Park since at least 1,000 CE. By the time the Civilian Conservation Corp made camp there in 1935, the parkland had been devastated by agriculture and timber harvesting. So under the guidance of architects Joe C. Lair and Ben K. Chambers, Company 2888 not only constructed park facilities but also executed an ambitious reclamation and rehabilitation project. Produced by the Tyler Chamber of Commerce, this 1955 promotional film segment highlights the recreational opportunities found at Tyler State Park and surrounding facilities.
