Daingerfield State Park | Adventure at Our Door (c. 1959)

While people have come to the area surrounding Daingerfield State Park for thousands of years (nearby prehistoric sites date to 9,500 BCE), the Civilian Conservation Corps created much of what park visitors encounter today. Beyond the typical infrastructure and facilities, Company 2891, an all-white unit, and Company 1801, an all-Black unit, also constructed an 80-acre lake and replanted most of Daingerfield's pine and hardwood forests, which had been decimated by decades of timber harvesting. Produced by the Jamieson Film Company for the Texas State Parks Board, this 1950s promotional film segment explains why Daingerfield offers a "truly scenic playground for fun and recreation."
