Davis Mountains State Park | Adventure at Our Door (c. 1959)

The Texas Legislature long considered the Davis Mountains an ideal destination for vacationing motorists and train travelers, so park development began soon after local ranchers donated the necessary acreage. The Civilian Conservation Corps built many of the facilities still in use today, including Indian Lodge, the mountainside hotel featured in this 1950s promotional film segment. To echo the pueblo style of Native American and Spanish architecture, Companies 879 and 881 constructed the building out of tens of thousands of 40-pound adobe bricks molded onsite.
