Palo Duro Canyon State Park | Adventure at Our Door (c. 1959)

Measuring 120 miles long, Palo Duro Canyon is the second-largest canyon in the United States (after the Grand Canyon). To turn the rugged landscape into a park, seven Civilian Conservation Corps companies—including two all-Black units and four all-veteran units—spent five years building roads, trails, lookout points, cabins, and other facilities. Produced by the Jamieson Film Company for the Texas State Parks Board, this 1950s promotional film segment captures many of the park's most picturesque scenes, including the Lighthouse.
