Possum Kingdom State Park | The Tim Kennedy Collection (1972)

After completing their work at Tyler State Park in 1941, Civilian Conservation Corps Company 2888 relocated to Palo Pinto County to develop a state park around the newly created Possum Kingdom. Enrollees built roads, campsites, and picnic areas, but the onset of World War II forced the shelving of more ambitious park projects. Company 2888 soon became the only active unit left in Texas. When its members abandoned the camp on July 13, 1942, the Texas CCC program effectively ended. This home movie captures Tim Kennedy and his friends on a trip to Possum Kingdom State Park in December 1972. Traveling in a camper van, the group scuba dives, makes a fire, and fishes.
