Lake Brownwood State Park | Adventure at Our Door (c. 1959)

The area now known as Lake Brownwood State Park was once home to multiple Native American tribes, including the Lipan Apache and Comanche. The reservoir itself did not exist until 1932, after a dam was built at the convergence of Pecan Bayou and Jim Ned Creek. Park development began soon thereafter, with units from both the Civil Works Administration and the Civilian Conservation Corps completing more than 100 construction projects. Produced by the Jamieson Film Company for the Texas State Parks Board, this 1950s promotional film segment showcases many of them, including the stone refectory designed by Waco architect Roy E. Lane.
